First response to a earthquake

During an earthquake, it can be dangerous to run out of a building.

Stay put in a safe place, e.g.

  • Go to an open door, kneel there and cover your head
  • Go to a corner between two load-bearing walls, kneel there and stay put if possible
  • Take cover under a table and hold on to a table leg

Beware of objects that can move or fall off shelves.

Do not use an elevator!

If you become trapped:

  • Protect your mouth and nose from dust
  • Do not light a fire
  • Let your whereabouts be known by calling or knocking at regular intervals

Once you have found a good safe place, stay there. Don't run around

The most important thing is to stay calm
